The “chamPIgnon” is a working group created in the 1980s in Béziers by René Laffitte, in collaboration with other teachers. This group brings together educators interested in exchanging ideas and reflecting on their practices in Institutional Pedagogy. In 1991, René Laffitte expanded the initiative by proposing the creation of a new group, chamPIdé (ChamPIgnon démarrage), designed to support those who wish to start a cooperative class. Some members also undergo AVPI (Apprentices-Responsibles) training and become responsible within AVPI. In 2005, the chamPIgnon organized a meeting day on Institutional Pedagogy, marking the success of this initiative. In response to this success and to better structure their activities, the Champ P.I. association is created. Despite René Laffitte’s passing in 2009, the chamPIgnon continues its pedagogical commitment by following in the footsteps of its founder, publishing monographs and files, and organizing workshops on Freinet pedagogy institutional since 2011.
