Alain Benesty and His Image Box
Alain Benesty and His Image Box: Documentary, Commitment, and a Unique Voice. Cinema, Human Sciences, and Cooperation within a Shared Ethical Framework Alain Benesty is a filmmaker who works in full cooperation with his fellow citizens and contemporaries to create a platform that gives people a direct voice: the “Image Box.” Politics, ethics, and aesthetics are inseparable in his approach, a method refined over the years that fosters both encounters and artistic creation. Through this process, individuals—often from marginalized communities—transform their words into powerful testimonies aimed at driving social change. Notably, Alain collaborated with the Calandreta of Lys (in Gascony) to develop Endavant tà l’escolà,with the village of Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry, which temporarily welcomed migrants after the dismantling of the Calais Jungle, to create La Jungle et la République, and with a diverse community in Montauban, where people of various origins, languages, and cultures came together to produce La France des couleurs. His work offers an artistic, political, and epistemological vision that is both humble and complex.
