In this text, Fernand Oury explains how class jobs, a major institution in the cooperative classroom, are inseparable from two other equally central institutions: the cooperative council (“instituting institution”) and the belts (for level and behavior). This is an entry into “school materialism” (Freinet), which makes the class a self-managed group, a group-subject, but above all, a world where one lives freely by producing and creating—a pedagogical praxis.
